Was John the Baptist to Rough or are we Becoming Softies?
John the Baptist was not Politically Correct
“You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruits worthy of repentance.” (Luke 3:7)
Today Almost Everyone Wants to be Politically Correct
I tell you, we would be hard pressed to find someone who preaches about repentance with such boldness today. I know I spend a lot of time making sure that my sermons are as gentle as possible. Some times I bite my tongue because I do not want to offend, because I am supposed to share a gentle message, and gentleness to people now days, translates into complimenting and trivial jokes that are entertaining. Shame on me!
Should the Church Continue its Trend?
How much time should we wait before the message of salvation becomes an urgent message? Political Correctness has all but destroyed, not just the church, but America as well.
Churches are, for the most part, no longer concerned with the message of the Gospel if it offends even one soul. They are afraid of losing members… thus the “seeker sensative” movement is not about preaching but about shying away from the truth - even if it brings us persecution.
Christ never instructed us to water down our message. We can expect persecution. If they persecuted Christ they will persecute us also.
